"I’m a Christian by choice."
Speaking in Albuquerque, NM today, President Obama explained his Christian faith while responding to an audience member's question about abortion.
"I’m a Christian by choice," Obama said. Describing why he made that choice, he added, "It was because the precepts of Jesus Christ spoke to me in terms of the kind of life I would want to lead."
"We’re sinful, and we’re flawed, and we make mistakes, and we achieve salvation through the grace of God," he added.
Regarding abortion, he said he Bill Clinton had it "right": "This is where Bill Clinton had the right formulation a couple of decades ago, that abortion should be safe, legal and rare":
