During a press conference today announcing a "tax cut" compromise, President Obama was sure to make some incredible claims. While saying that the GOP has held taxpayers "hostage" and continuing to posit the idea that Republicans are fighting for "tax cuts" for the rich, Obama prophesied that in two years the GOP will be fighting to end "middle class tax cuts" that they have staunchly"opposed":
As Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) pointed out, the compromise is not really about "cuts." The current rates have been in place for the last 10 years. In addition, it's hard to understand how deciding not to raise taxes qualifies as a tax cut.
