Promise Kept: Harry Reid Returns Gay West Point Graduate's Ring

"I'm going to give it back to him."

Former Army infantry officer Lt. Dan Choi served in combat during the Iraq war from 2006-2007. After coming out as a homosexual on the Rachel Maddow Show in March 2009, Choi has worked as a gay rights advocate, encouraging the repeal of the military's Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy which bans gays from serving openly in the military.

In March, Choi and another ousted military officer were arrested after handcuffing themselves to the fence of the White House. In addition, Choi gave his West Point class ring to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid who promised to return the ring after Congress repealed DADT.

On Wednesday, Reid returned the ring to Choi in a press event on Capitol Hill:
