"So what, are you gunna fire everyone and hire Walmart employees?"
What can go wrong during a "Twitter town hall?" There are no live questions, no unsuspected outbursts, and the "speaker" is in control of everything. Unless you're new Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) and you retweet a profane message.
The process was fairly simple. Scott picked 22 questions to retweet, and then responded with an answer. There were questions about living in the state capital, Tallahassee, his thoughts on offshore drilling, and his plan for the Department of Corrections. But it's not the 22 questions that are getting the most attention. It's the 23 one -- apparently retweeted by accident -- that's grabbing headlines.
That tweet came from user "Pretty Twister" who asked: "So what, are you gunna fire everyone and hire Walmart employees? Yeah, thats great... you jackass."
Following the format of the evening, Scott's posting of the comment made it seem as if he would answer. He didn't. Instead, he thanked everyone for their tweets and signed off.
The profane tweet was later deleted from the exchange.
The event in general, however, was being hailed as a success. Scott even picked up 1,000 Twitter followers on Thursday.
