Newt Calls Into Rush's Show and Gives 'Frustrating' Interview

"This is really uncomfortable for me..."

Earlier this week, Rush Limbaugh delivered some stern words to Newt Gingrich about Gingrich's comments regarding an individual health care mandate and Paul Ryan's Medicare proposal. "Inexplicable" and "mind-boggling" were just some of Rush's comments from Monday. Being a smart conservative, Gingrich understands that no Republican has a shot if Rush is doubting your conservatism. So, he called into Rush's radio show today. And his chances may have just declined even more.

Mediaite characterized Gingrich's responses to Rush's questions as "verbose and increasingly complicated," which produced "some priceless expressions" from Rush. And it also produced some priceless comments such as this one, where Rush gets frustrated with Gingrich's cell phone:

Newt this is very difficult, you’re on a cell phone and because you can’t hear questions I’m trying to ask you. It’s a bit frustrating for me. ... This is really uncomfortable for me because you know – we’ve known each other a long time – and I’ve had such, and still do, such profound respect, admiration and even envy for your intellect at times. But there’s just some things that are confusing me.

In the end, despite Gingrich's attempts, there doesn't seem to have been much clarifying going on, but rather more confusing statements and maybe even more questions. Listen for yourself:

"Overall, Newt should receive some credit for not backing down from the heat, yet in Rush’s kitchen, it seems unlikely anyone ever walks away looking better than the chef," Mediate writes. It seems appropriate to use the kitchen analogy, as Gingrich may have just cooked himself.
