Jesus Statue Decapitated Outside of MA Catholic Church

"...someone saw someone smashing the head of Christ."

A statue of Jesus outside of a Dorchester, Massachusetts, church has been decapitated. According to Rev. Jack Ahern of Blessed Mother Teresa of the Calcutta Church, the statue's head was smashed off early Sunday morning.

Following the incident, the pastor discovered pieces of the head on the ground and the statue, itself, off of its base:

"Sunday morning, about three o’clock, someone saw someone smashing the head of Christ, completely decapitating Christ and pushed the statue off its base," he said in an interview with WBZ NewsRadio 1030 this week.

CBS Boston reports that parishioners helped to pick the statue up; they tied it to a church sign so that it would be protected from further damage.

“It’s so disrespectful. There’s no respect any more,” one church member said. “I wonder how people are raised with the lack of morals, that they would even think of doing that.”

The statue is said to be beyond repair, although Ahern reports that numerous invidiously have come forward in an effort to assist in refurbishing it, should such an action be possible.

While no arrests have been made, Boston police are seeking the vandals responsible for the act.
