Cool or creepy? Ronald Reagan's blood is for sale

I've seen lots of weird things for sale on the internet -- from Britney Spears' chewed bubble gum (winning bid: $14,000) to toast resembling the Virgin Mary (winning bid: $28,000).  Now we can add another to the list: a vial of blood taken from President Ronald Reagan during his hospital stay after an attempted assassination in 1981.

Here are some of the details, via Mediaite:

The bottle’s origin, according to its owner, is from the 1981 assassination attempt and had been kept in the family as a relic. In a somewhat convoluted story, the owner notes that there was contact between the Reagan family, the government, and the owner and all was clear for the bottle to be sold without conflict. The vial comes with a number of verification documents.

My first impression of this online auction was ew, creepy.  But apparently, bidding for the unique piece of presidential history is pretty hot.  The vial of dried blood is currently going for about $12,000 with 2 days left for bidding.

When a representative from the Reagan Presidential Library asked the owner if he'd like to gift the item to the Reagan family, he responded:

I told him that I didn’t think that was something that I was going to consider, since I had served under Pres. Reagan when he was my Commander in Chief when I was in the ARMY from ’87-’91 and that I was a real fan of Reaganomics and felt that Pres. Reagan himself would rather see me sell it rather than donating it.
