Mitt Romney and the Republican National Committee outraised President Barack Obama and the Democrats by more than $16 million during the month of May.
Romney and the RNC raised a combined total of $76.8 million, compared to $60 million netted jointly by Obama and the Democratic National Committee.
The RNC announced the latest haul Thursday morning and has $107 million on hand. The Obama campaign, which announced the $60 million earlier Thursday, did not say how much it had on hand.
As Politico noted, May was the first month for a direct dollar-to-dollar comparison after Romney effectively wrapped the GOP nomination in April.
