DNC Executive Director Invokes Villain 'Lord Voldemort' While Talking About Palin

Sarah Palin has been out of the news for a while. Moreover, she has mainly confined her focus to the GOP (endorsing candidates, etc.).

Yet apparently for Democrats, Palin is still an oppressive, frightening presence who they loathe so much they won't even mention her name. Witness this story from Red Alert Politics, in which DNC Executive Director Patrick Gaspard compared Palin to the villain of the Harry Potter series - namely, the murderous, psychopathic, child-murdering, Hitler-esque racist terrorist leader, Lord Voldemort:

At an event for youth held Monday afternoon at the Democratic National Convention Patrick Gaspard, executive director of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), compared 2008 Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin to Lord Voldemort, the villian in theHarry Potter book and movie series.

After calling 2012 Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney “one of the of the most extreme right-wing candidates to ever have the Republican nomination,” Gaspard said, claiming that Romney is even further to the right of President Barack Obama’s 2008 opponent, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.).

“Think about this for a second,” he told the group. “When John McCain was running with ‘that person’ in 2008 – I don’t say that name – it’s like Voldemort, you just [cut yourself off],” he said as the crowd drowned him out with laugher.

Now, granted, Gaspard wasn't saying Palin and Voldemort are morally equivalent figures. He was simply saying Democrats fear to mention her name the same way characters in the Harry Potter series fear to mention Voldemort's.

Still, why be that afraid in the first place? This degree of post-Palin traumatic reaction still existing four years after she was a candidate for national office is curious. Then again, if certain RNC campaign ads are to be believed, the Democrats still think they're in 2008 anyway.
