Distrust in news media at all-time high [Gallup, 9/21]: Sixty percent of Americans put little or no trust in the mass media to "report the news fully, accurately, and fairly." Democrats tend to trust the media more than both Republicans and independents.

Undecided voters lean (slightly) toward President Obama [Reason/Rupe, 9/21]: Among likely voters Obama leads Mitt Romney 48 to 43 percent. When undecided voters are asked to choose between the two candidates, Obama leads 52 to 45 percent.

Most think government spending will increase under Democrats [Rasmussen, 9/21]: "51% of Likely U.S. Voters think government spending will go up if Obama is reelected and Democrats win control of the entire Congress."

The horse race [RCP average, 9/21]: An average of national polls shows Obama leading Romney 48.6 to 44.7 percent.
