CNN bests Fox News, MSNBC in Inauguration Day ratings

A press release from CNN sent out today boasts its Inauguration Day ratings, beating out both Fox News and MSNBC.

From 11 a.m to 12:15 p.m., the time slot for the Oath of Office and the Inaugural address, CNN had more than 3 million viewers total. MSNBC came in at a distant second with 2.25 million and Fox finished third with 1.3 million.

Later, during the prime time hours of 8 p.m. to 11 p.m., CNN came out on top again, garnering 3.5 million viewers. Fox, with 1.7 million viewers, moved ahead of MSNBC, which got 1.4 million.

It's worth noting that Fox largely played regularly scheduled programs in the prime time hours, like The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity, with only some news updates on what was happening at the Inaugural balls. Both CNN and MSNBC had special coverage and anchors live at the events.
