"It wasn't very sensible but he didn't mean bad."

"Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

So wrote teen pop star Justin Bieber in the guestbook at the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam, after touring where the young Holocaust victim hid with her family before they were arrested by the Gestapo. "Belieber" is the term for the singer's highly devoted fan base.

The museum posted about Bieber's visit and the contents of his guestbook entry on Facebook Saturday night:

Yesterday night Justin Bieber visited the Anne Frank House, together with his friends and guards. Fans were waiting outside to see a glimpse of him. He stayed more than an hour in the museum. In our guestbook he wrote: "Truly inspiring to be able to come here. Anne was a great girl. Hopefully she would have been a belieber."

Tonight Bieber will give a concert in Arnhem in the Netherlands.

A BBC reporter confirmed with the museum's press office that Bieber wrote the comments.

"He's 19, it's a strange life he's living, it wasn't very sensible but he didn't mean bad," the press office said.

They added, "He was very interested in Anne Frank."
