Shortest Career Ever? Anchor Who Unleashed String of Expletives During News Intro Says He's Been Fired
April 22, 2013
"Rookie mistake."
A.J. Clemente was given his shot on air Sunday as the co-anchor with NBC affiliate KFYR-TV in Bismark, N.D., but was uncomfortably caught in a "rookie" mistake of letting loose a string of curse words without realizing his microphone was live on TV.
Now, Clemente has been fired from his newly acquired post and the station all together. Here's what he as said on Twitter:
Rookie mistake. I'm a free agent.Cant help but laugh at myself and stay positive.Wish i didnt trip over my "Freaking Shoes" out of the gate.— A.J. Clemente (@ClementeAJ) April 22, 2013
Unfortunately KFYRTV has decided to let me go. Thank you to them and everyone in ND for the opportunity and everyone for the support.— A.J. Clemente (@ClementeAJ) April 22, 2013
Clemente also clarified that he wasn't saying "gay" in a derogatory way on the news, but was under his breath trying to pronounce the name of London Marathon winner Tsegaye Kebede.
I just want to say that I did not say the word gay, I was trying to pronounce the London Marathon winners name Tsegaye Kebede.— A.J. Clemente (@ClementeAJ) April 22, 2013
On Sunday, after his gaffe, Clemente apologized. A director with the station issued an apology as well.
Prior to his going on the air, Clemente tweeted that his tape was being reviewed to see if he was ready. After being given the green light to co-anchor and unleashing the expletives, Clemente wrote that it "couldn't have gone any worse."
But Clemente seems to have made some new friends on Twitter due to his now viral story. He has gotten several requests to call in to radio shows.
In case you missed it in the first story on TheBlaze, here's what Clemente said on TV that resulted in him getting the boot (Content warning: strong language):
