Texas Man Reportedly Yells 'Jihad' Numerous Times After He's Arrested for Breaching Dallas Airport Security

"...he appeared to be in 'emotional distress.'"

A Garland, Texas, man was detained on Sunday evening after breaching security at Dallas Love Field Airport. After entering a restricted area, Ruben Jimenez, 36, drove past a guard and was inevitably found inside one of the hangars. When police approached him, Jimenez, according to authorities, yelled "Jihad" numerous times.

The incident began when he drove to the general aviation side of the airport (not near public terminals). After approaching the gate, the man is said to have driven past the gate operator and onto the taxiway. KDFW-TV reports that authorities said no passenger planes were endangered by the breach.

Officers then found Jimenez sitting against a wall. When police asked him to stand, he ignored their request and continued staring into space. When authorities demanded he comply, the man reportedly yelled "Jihad" and became aggressive.

The Dallas Morning News recaps the events in greater detail:

An officer who confronted Jimenez in an airport hangar said he appeared to be in “emotional distress.” They repeatedly ordered him to stand up and place his hands behind his back before he began to comply, police said.

As the officer attempted to arrest him, Jimenez pushed away and “began to resist by throwing his arms in air,” the documents said.

He turned and faced the officer in an “aggressive fighting stance” and the officer pulled out his collapsible baton, police said.

While waiting for backup, the officer said he overheard Jimenez “yell in an unknown language” and stated “‘jihad’ approximately three times,” the documents said. Officers were eventually able to subdue Jimenez.

The incident unfolded around 6 p.m., with Jimenez being arrested on a misdemeanor trespassing charge, KDFW-TV reports. He is being held on $250,000 bail.
