The New Obama Magazine Cover That Is Bound to Spark Controversy

Huh.

Many magazines publish intentionally controversial or inflammatory covers in order to generate sales or word-of-mouth advertising.

Indeed, when Newsweek was still in print, it had something of a monopoly on “shocking” magazine covers.

But with the release of its most recent issue, it looks like The Economist is getting in on the spark-controversy-with-an-incendiary-cover game.

Now although it’s not clearly spelled out for readers, the above cover is most definitely a reference to the 2005 drama “Brokeback Mountain,” a movie about two gay cowboys:

Will The Economist catch heavy flack for its controversial cover? We’ll have to wait and see.
