Perhaps surprisingly, then-South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford, a Republican, received less coverage for his Argentinian mistress scandal than both Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer, two Democrats, did for their respective controversies.
Then again, what happened just as news broke of Sanford's affair? Michael Jackson died. Spitzer and Weiner's news cycles weren't so lucky as to have a pop icon die at the height of their downfalls.
