See the Half-Court Shot That Earned One Young Man $11,000 in Free Tuition
August 19, 2013
"The only student in the school's history to actually make this shot..."
Markus Burden may not be in line to become an NBA draft pick, but his basketball skills just earned him a free semester at college.
Burden, an incoming freshman at Ball State University in Indiania, isn't even on the university's basketball team. Still, the college just gave him an $11,000 scholarship ($11,084 to be exact) because of his ability to shoot the ball. That's because during the school's annual Welcome Week, Burden sank the infamous half-court shot:
For an even more dramatic video of the shot, complete with sound of the crowd going wild, watch the video below:
So how rare was the shot? In the entire history of the contest he's the only one to sink it and get the prize, reports WXIA-TV.
The Star-Press says Burden was randomly selected to take it.
"I called my mother right after when I won," Burden, 18, told "Good Morning America" on Monday. "When we were walking outside I was basically in tears telling her that her son just won us free tuition."
That mother, Malinda, had a very simple response when she posted the video to her Facebook page on Friday, Yahoo says: "God is good."
