Former Vice President Al Gore:
Former Vice President Al Gore on Friday called the GOP's strategy to defund Obamacare "political terrorism."Speaking at the Brookings Institution, Gore called it a "despicable and dishonorable threat to the United States of America" for Republicans to risk shutting down the government if they don't get what they want.
Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) on Friday said that the Tea Party movement is just as dangerous for America as the Civil War.“A small group of willful men and women who have a certain ideology about how our country should run and what we should do cannot get their way in a normal discourse and votes,” Harkin said. “Since they can’t get their way they’re going to create this confusion and discourse and hope the public is so mixed up in who to blame for this that perhaps they’ll blame both sides.”
“That is the path they see for taking over the government. It’s dangerous, very dangerous. … Every bit as dangerous as the break up and the Civil War.”
White House strategist Dan Pfeiffer:
A top White House aide said Thursday that the White House refuses to negotiate with Republicans over the debt ceiling, likening the GOP to someone with "a bomb strapped to their chest.""What we're not for is negotiating with people with a bomb strapped to their chest," senior White House adviser Dan Pfeiffer said on CNN. "We're not going to do that."
Pfeiffer then took the metaphor a step further, saying the GOP is asking for a "ransom."
"It is not a negotiation if I show up at your house and say, 'Give me everything inside or I'm going to burn it down,'" he said. "The Republicans have provided a laundry list of essentially ransom demands."
