Iran Brings Out the Armored Vehicles to Destroy...

"Dishes on death row."

Iranian security forces rolled out armored personnel carriers over the weekend to demolish satellite dishes, part of an ongoing effort to curb the public’s access to non-government media sources.

The Iranian news agency ISNA published photographs of the operation that the Gulf Times is dubbing the “war on satellite dishes.”

“Dishes on death row,” quipped the Israeli news site Ynet which reports that hundreds of the dishes were confiscated in Shiraz. The images show the dishes lined up in the road, then run over by the camouflage-painted armored vehicle. Many of the dishes appear to be old and rusted.

Ynet reports that these sweeping raids of roof-top satellite dishes occur occasionally, including a similar event in June also in Shiraz.

Though dozens of spectators lined the road to watch the display, it appears the confiscation operation may not be totally effective.

“According to reports in Iranian media, at the time, immediately following the raid residents quickly repurchased and installed new dishes, despite the regime's threats,” reports Israel’s Ynet.
