One of New York City's Most Popular Artists Was Secretly Selling His Art on the Street This Weekend and No One Knew It

"I just need something for the walls."

It's no secret that things in New York City typically cost a lot more than in other parts of the country. But that wasn't the case this weekend when a few lucky people picked up some very pricey artwork at bargain basement prices.

The famous street painter and graffiti artist Banksy continued his month-long experiment in New York City, this time selling his expensive art on the streets for just $60. No, that's not a typo. Art that might typically cost a collector upwards of $40,000 instead went on a sidewalk outside Central Park for just a tiny fraction of that.

The famously anonymous artist set up the booth, hired a man to handle sales, and used a hidden camera to record the day's business.

While he was in place and open for business before noon, nothing was sold according to the video until 3:30 p.m. when a woman bought two canvases for her children -- but only after negotiating a 50 percent discount.

And then there was a visitor from Chicago: a man decorating a new house told the vendor, "I just need something for the walls." He unknowingly purchased four Banksy works for just $240 -- a value of more than $150,000.

At the end of the day, the remaining artwork was taken down, the table folded up, and the money counted. The total haul: $420.

According to Banksy, the stand won't be seen in NYC again and was just a "one-off."
