Guess Who Says People Really Want Him to Run for President Again

"I’ve had a spate of emails and letters and phone calls..."

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) told reporters over the weekend that he has no plans to run for president again -- despite supposedly being begged to make another go of it.

“Particularly since the shutdown, I’ve had a spate of emails and letters and phone calls saying, ‘Run for president again,’” McCain said, according to the Arizona Republic. “As you know, I’m seriously thinking about running for re-election to the Senate. But I think, in the words of the late Morris K. Udall, as far as my presidential ambitions are concerned, ‘The people have spoken—the bastards.’”

"I can assure you, I don’t see it," McCain added. "It’s not on my radar."

Though McCain shut the White House possibility down, at least one pollster said he's seen some renewed interest in a possible McCain 2016 run.

Bruce Merrill, an Arizona political scientist and pollster, told the Republic he's recently fielded multiple calls from reporters asking about the possibility of a third McCain bid for the White House.
