Authorities in Tennessee are investigating why a puppy was skinned, mutilated and left dead on a man's vehicle Saturday.

"I walked to my car like this, to the trunk - and there was just four paws hanging out," Randall Ward told WTVF-TV.

Ward discovered the puppy as he prepared to head to work. He said the animal had been skinned, had its ears cut off and may have been stabbed.

"It was down to the meat. Just meat. Red meat all over," he told WTVF-TV. "It was skinned so much you really couldn't tell what it was. But I mean, just the way it was skinned was so fine and tuned it was like someone took some time to do it."

Investigators are now offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and have sent the carcass to a lab in an effort to determine whether the puppy was skinned before or after it had died.

"This is one of the most cruel cases they've ever seen," said Sgt. Kyle Evans.

Police are also working to determine why the puppy was left dead on Ward's car.

"Our investigators are left a little puzzled wondering why this animal was placed on this car," he said. "Perhaps the wrong car. Perhaps a mistaken identity. There are a lot of questions in this case that still are unanswered."
