Man Who Wanted to Commit 'Violent Jihad Against the U.S.' Was Reportedly Inspired by Bin Laden

Criminal complaints against Terry Lee Loewen — the man arrested Friday in a sting operation for allegedly plotting to car bomb Wichita's Mid-Continent Airport in Kansas — indicate he was reportedly influenced by Osama bin Laden.

He also mentions "Inspire" magazine, Business Insider added, an English-language online publication produced by al-Qaida’s Yemen affiliate that has endorsed lone-wolf terror attacks and that Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev allegedly frequented.

Loewen was arrested early Friday morning when he tried to detonate a car loaded with what he thought were explosives in a terminal, Grissom said. Officials said the bomb materials he had were inert.

He was taken into custody after the access card he tried to use to gain entry to the tarmac area didn’t work, Grissom said. He was arrested without incident.
