Russian TV Star Says Gays Should Be Burned Alive in Ovens

A star of a Russian takeoff on the sitcom “Scrubs” has said that gay people should be put in ovens alive, because they are a “danger” to his children.

"I'd put them all alive in the oven,” Ivan Okhlobystin told fans in Novosibirsk in Siberia, according to quotes published in the Moscow Times. “It's a living danger to my children.”

According to a local news website News.ngs.ru translated in the Moscow Times, Okhlobystin, a father of six, slammed what he termed "gay fascism" and called for "faggots" to be stripped of their right to vote.

Buzzfeed posted additional quotes from Okhlobystin including these: “I don’t want my children to think that being a [faggot] is okay.”

“It’s queer fascism! If a person can’t choose someone similar from the opposite sex for reproduction, it’s a clear sign of a psychic anomaly, it means they need to be deprived of the vote,” Okhlobystin said.

“It’s Sodom and Gomorrah, as a religious person I can’t be indifferent to it, it’s a living threat to my children,” he added.

Fans of the medical sitcom “Interns” applauded, according to the NGS Novosti report translated by Buzzfeed. Those fans were described as “housewives and tough dudes working blue-collar jobs, craving spirituality.”

Okhlobystin reportedly added that Moscow journalists should go to the ovens as well as gays for doing their work badly.

The gay website Queerty wrote in response, “So, okay, this guy feels that good parenting requires the adoption of the tactics of Adolph [sic] Hitler. That’s so awesome. His kids are lucky to have such a great dad.”

Okhlobystin, 47, was a priest in the Orthodox Christian church, but requested his priesthood be suspended in 2010, according to various media reports. In 2011, he campaigned briefly for the Russian presidency with the Right Cause party. He has said he would use profits earned from an upcoming book to buy arms for the forces loyal to President Bashar Assad in Syria.

In June, Russia’s parliament unanimously passed a law that would ban gay “propaganda.” The law meant that disseminating "propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations" to minors would now be illegal. Russians spreading materials on lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights could be fined, while foreigners could be expelled from the country.
