Conservative commentator Pat Buchanan has taken sides in America's culture war. He's with Russia President Vladimir Putin.
"In the culture war for mankind's future," Buchanan writes in his latest column, "is he one of us?"
Buchanan goes on to say Putin's positions in favor of traditional Russian values, particularly his opposition to same-sex marriage, mean he's "seeing the future with more clarity than Americans still caught up in a Cold War paradigm."
A little more:
[Putin] is seeking to redefine the "Us vs. Them" world conflict of the future as one in which conservatives, traditionalists and nationalists of all continents and countries stand up against the cultural and ideological imperialism of what he sees as a decadent west.
In September, Buchanan praised an op-ed Putin wrote for the New York Times, which was highly critical of the Obama administration. "I think, frankly, in the last week Vladimir Putin looks like a statesman," Buchanan said on Fox News.
