Guiliani defends Christie by pointing to Obama scandals

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani defended Gov. Chris Christie, R-N.J., on Sunday, citing the IRS scandal under President Obama's presidency as well as the failure to protect American diplomats in Benghazi.

Giuliani explained in an interview on ABC's "This Week" that it was likely that things could go wrong in political operations particularly when people get the wrong message, defending Christie's assertion that he had no knowledge of the bridge closure scandal.

"The people in the IRS thought President Obama wanted them to do this. President Obama didn't want them to do this. But they got the sense because of that culture that they were supposed to target right-wing groups. It was totally wrong," Giuliani replied after ABC's Martha Raddatz asked him to question the culture of Christie's administration.

Giuliani pointed out that Christie was also on the campaign trail at the time, which might be why he wasn't paying close enough attention.

"And frankly, you know, he was in campaign mode at the time; during campaign mode you miss a lot of things. You're not paying as much attention. We see that with Benghazi," he added.
