Things Get Super Awkward After News Anchor Mistakes Samuel L. Jackson for Another Black Actor During Live Interview
February 10, 2014
“There’s more than one black guy doing the commercials."
Samuel L. Jackson eviscerated a KTLA-TV anchor early Monday morning after the host accidentally mistook the actor for Laurence Fishburne.
The mistake happened when anchor Sam Rubin attempted to list several of Jackson's recent professional accomplishments, specifically noting that he starred in a Super Bowl commercial last weekend.
The problem? Jackson didn't appear in a Super Bowl ad. Fishburne did.
“I’m not Laurence Fishburne,” Jackson passionately said. “We don’t all look alike! We may be black and famous, but we don’t all look alike!”
Rubin attempted to backtrack, but Jackson refused to let the issue go.
"I'm the other guy," Jackson said. "I'm the other guy. The other one."

“There’s more than one black guy doing the commercials. I’m the ‘What’s in your wallet?’ black guy,” he continued, referencing the Capital One commercials he is featured in. “He’s the car black guy, Morgan Freeman is the other credit card black guy. You only hear his voice though, so you probably won’t confuse him with Laurence Fishburne.”
“I’ve actually never done a McDonald’s or Kentucky Fried Chicken commercial," Jackson later added. "I know that’s surprising!"
Rubin later apologized to Jackson, saying he was "really embarrassed" over the incident.
“I’m really embarrassed about it, and I very much apologize to Samuel L. Jackson and anyone else who was offended for what was a very amateur mistake,” Rubin said on KTLA-TV.
