Does the Creepy Image Caught on Historic Pub's Security Cam Show Something Paranormal?

"I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to ghosts but you become more of a believer when you see things like that."

Late-night security footage taken at one of Britain's oldest pubs is spooking at least one staffer and the general public alike amid claims that a mysterious figure can be seen appearing on film.

Pub manager Tim Dooley, a self-proclaimed skeptic, said his opinion on the paranormal changed after he observed video taken in the middle of the night on Feb. 14, at the Ye Olde Man and Scythe, a bar in Bolton, U.K.

"I came down and saw a glass smashed on the floor so I was instantly suspicious and went to check the CCTV and found it has stopped working," he told the Manchester Evening News.

When he examined the footage, he said he realized that the cameras had mysteriously stopped filming at 6:18 a.m.

And then, Dooley said, he found something that truly spooked him: the video appeared to show a flickering image emerge near the bar.

"To be honest I was a bit concerned -- I'm a bit of a skeptic when it comes to ghosts but you become more of a believer when you see things like that," he added.

As is the case with many videos these days, this could always be a part of a creative marketing campaign. TheBlaze's calls to the pub to learn more about the clip's origins have gone unanswered.

That said, legends of haunting presences at Ye Olde Man and Scythe are apparently nothing new.

The pub dates back to 1251 -- and its long history has given way to claims that it was haunted by the Seventh Earl of Derby, James Stanley, the Evening News reported.

Stanley, a Royalist commander during the English civil war, was executed in 1651 in the marketplace outside the pub. He reportedly ate his last meal there.

But that's not all: Some say that past paranormal investigations and psychic readings show that the pub is haunted by at least 25 spirits.
