Babysitter Allegedly Drugged Children So They Would Fall Asleep

An Indianpolis daycare owner has been formally charged with six counts of neglect after prosecutors say she admitted to drugging children so they would fall asleep.

According to WTHR, four kids from Stephanie Gribble's "Stay and Play" daycare center were rushed to the emergency room on Feb. 12 with symptoms of possible overdose from the medicine.

Symptoms reportedly included drooling, tongue hanging out, clenched fists and even unconsciousness, among other things.

Gribble, who initially denied drugging the kids, later admitted she gave them grape flavored cough medicine, according to court documents. She was initially arrested on Feb. 14.

Blood tests further found Risperidone present in the blood of all four kids, WTHR reported.

According to one expert, Dr. Jerry Snow of the poison control center, Risperidone "is a complex drug that should never be administered by anyone who is not a qualified medical doctor."

It is not clear whether the children taken to the emergency room suffered any long term injuries, according to WTHR.

An initial hearing is scheduled for Monday morning.
