You won't believe the books the State Department just spent $80,000 on for one American embassy library in Africa
March 17, 2014
Your taxpayer dollars at work.
As reported by the Washington Free Beacon, the State Department is spending U.S. tax dollars on some interesting titles to stock the library of the American Embassy in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
The library, which specializes in "U.S foreign Policy, U.S. social and cultural issues, Art, Management, U.S. history, geography, the Economy, Human Rights, Press and media, American studies... in French and English," apparently sanctions the order of a wide variety of books.
A recent procurement order for over 400 titles worth $79,989.68 includes four copies of "Les Rêves de Mon Père: L'histoire d'un héritage en noir et blanc," or Barack Obama's "Dreams from My Father: A Story of Race and Inheritance," along with four copies of "Nudge: La méthode douce pour inspirer la bonne décision," or Cass Sunstein's "Nudge: Improving Decisions About Health, Wealth and Happiness."
Other notable titles include Michelle Alexander's "The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness," "Panthères noires: Histoire du Black Panther Party," a history of the Black Panther Party by Tom Van Eersel and leftist economist Joseph Stiglitz's "La Grande Désillusion" or "Globalization and its Discontents."
Educational selections include titles such as the "U.S. Constitution for Dummies" by Michael Arnheim, Geology for Dummies by Alecia Spooner, "Weather for Dummies" by John Cox and Cracking the AP Calculus AB & BC Exams, 2013 Edition (College Test Preparation) by the Princeton Review.
