Jacob Aguirre was just doing what he often does when free time affords — shooting some hoops at the basketball backboard and pole set up on his street in San Antonio, Texas.

But when the devoted Spurs fan saw a police car park near his solo game and an officer exit the vehicle Wednesday evening, the 12-year-old got nervous.

“I thought I was in trouble when he pulled over,” Aguirre told KENS-TV in San Antonio.

In a manner of speaking, Aguirre was spot-on: The unidentified cop was on break and challenged the kid to a throw-down — in a friendly game of one-on-one.

The pair played for 15 minutes and Aguirre's mom, Monica, recorded the competition on her cell phone.

“I thought something had happened but when I check he’s actually playing basketball with the cop,” said Monica Aguirre told KENS.

She posted her cellphone video on her Facebook page, and soon after sent a note with photos to the San Antonio Police Department, which reposted her message on its Facebook page: "Today one of your fellow officers took the time out of his break to play some one-on-one with my son. It made my son's day. After his break he shook my son's hand and off he went."

“I think he’s nice because he took the time to do it," Jacob told KENS.

“It’s not every day this little life experience [happens] for him. It’s huge. It may not mean much but it’s huge,” Jacob's mother told KENS. “Whoever he is I want to say thank you and maybe I would like to meet him."

Indeed, the identity of the basketball-playing cop is still a mystery; the SAPD is trying to find out who the officer is so it can put him in touch with the family.

In the meantime, his sixth-grade opponent — who fell to his impromptu challenger by a mere two points — wants to meet him again, too.

“I want my rematch," Jacob said.
