The 'Antisocial' App That Lets You Go Into 'Incognito Mode for Real Life

"Think of it as the antisocial network."

Social media is great, except when it does exactly what it's intended to do: connect you with other human beings.

Sometimes, we just don't want to be connected. Or found. Or seen. Especially by that chatty neighbor you just saw yesterday or that creepy ex who always seems to "pop up" unexpectedly.

Enter the greatest defender of your online social sanity: the Cloak App.

fwea Cloak does make a pretty good pitch: it's the antisocial network app for when you are too tired, cranky, hungry or just plain whiny to speak to other humans in person (Image via iTunes).

Cloak "scrapes Instagram and Foursquare to let you know where all your friends, 'friends,' and nonfriends are at all times so you never have to run into that special someone,"

"Think of it as the antisocial network," the Cloak site reads.

Scientific American reported:

"The Cloak app scans [your online social contacts] most recent check-ins, and plots those locations on a map. It can even alert you when the guy you owe twenty bucks to is nearby.

Cloak developers Brian Moore and Chris Baker say they came up with the idea after too many chance encounters with ex-girlfriends.

Cloak doesn't currently interface with apps like Facebook or Twitter, but they are working to include those social sites as well.
