Oops: Cyclist Makes Embarrassing Mistake During What He Thinks Is the Last Lap of His Race

"Clearly, he doesn't understand English."

Leading a pack of cyclists with the finish line in sight and crossing it first with a final push must feel good. Oh, the feeling of sweet victory.

Now imagine the let down while you're fist pumping in celebration and realize cyclists are starting to pass you and continue onward. That's right, you celebrated a lap too soon.

That's what happened to Eloy Teruel at the Tour de California over the weekend.

The announcer in a EuroSports video even seemed to predict the mistake before it happened.

"I think he's hoping this would be the last lap, but we still have one lap to go," the announcer said, before Teruel crossed and started his premature victory.

"That's a little unfortunate for the Spaniard," the announcer said after Teruel sat up in his seat, arms raised. "Clearly, he doesn't understand English. The commentator is saying 'no, no, no.' That is a shame."

Watch the embarrassing moment, which includes the moment Teruel realizes his mistake:

British cyclist Bradley Wiggins ended up winning the competition.

On Twitter, Teruel wrote (translate via Google Translate) jokingly that he "might desire to win, luckily no one has seen," then he laughed.
