Watch the Reaction From Someone Down-and-Out When a Former Homeless Man Decides to Change His Fortune
June 04, 2014
"When I said I wanted to help, I wanted to help."
Eric, a former homeless man who saw Internet fame after he tried to share his winnings with a man who gave him a lottery ticket and who later was surprised with his own apartment, is now paying forward the blessings he has recently received at the hands of YouTuber Magic of Rahat.
Instead of being on the receiving end, this time Magic of Rahat filmed Eric experiencing what it's like to be on the other side of the table -- the giving side.
Using his own money, Eric set out to provide a homeless individual in his community with a hotel room. The recipient was a man playing his guitar outside a store, accepting change from passing listeners.
"It's pretty hot out here, my friend, and me and my friend have a whole lot of money, and we would like to put you up in a hotel room," Eric said.
"That's too generous," the other man said, not quite believing the offer.
But some further prodding and the prospect of a shower with a cool room won him over.
"I would really like to get you the room and get you out this heat," Eric said as the man began to consider how nice a shower would be.
The man finally agreed, and Eric explained that he too was in a similar predicament once.
At the hotel, Eric learns $1,000 would get his new friend a stay for four weeks.
"A whole month, dude," the man said in disbelief.
In the room, the homeless man sat in a chair, putting his hands over his face in a moment of being overwhelmed at the prospect of his own room for a month.
"When I said I wanted to help, I wanted to help," Eric said. "And this is not the last time you're gonna see me."
