O'Reilly Decries Conservative Activist's Hillary Clinton 'Ambush' Video
June 26, 2014
"If you can make it out to Christopher Stevens. I think you know him?"
TV host Bill O'Reilly spoke out against conservative activist Jason Mattera's recent confrontation of Hillary Clinton on his show Wednesday night, calling it "unacceptable" to use "a horrendous act of terror to make a political point."
Video of the encounter, which features Mattera approaching Clinton and asking her to sign a book for Christopher Stevens, the U.S. Ambassador to Libya who died in Benghazi in 2012, captured a great deal of attention last week.
"If you can make it out to Christopher Stevens. I think you know him?," Mattera said while asking Clinton to sign a copy of her new book.
When she declined, he asked, "What difference does it make?," referencing a comment Clinton made while testifying about the Benghazi terror attack last year.
But O'Reilly said Mattera's approach to calling out the former secretary of state was inappropriate and ill-conceived.
"Using a horrendous act of terror to make a political point — unacceptable," the TV host proclaimed, adding that he believes Clinton handled the situation well. "This hurts conservatives, this hurts them, it doesn't help them ... and anybody who thinks that it does, really it's troubling."
Fox News anchor Martha MacCallum joined him in decrying the incident as an example of "ambush journalism."
"He was trying to create the irony of saying that she was surrounded by more security than Christopher Stevens was in Benghazi," she said. "It fell flat. It's thoughtless and I think it was over the line."

The conservative activist responded to O'Reilly's segment in a series of tweets Wednesday night, defending his confrontation of Clinton:
Let's be honest, that was @oreillyfactor blowing a wet kiss to Hillary in order to score an interview.

Rather than invite me to debate Hillary video, @oreillyfactor brings on someone else to parrot his points. Yeah, "fair and balanced."

If DC media would confront rather than coronate Hillary, I wouldn't have to. @oreillyfactor

I guess it's okay to ambush Obama's illegal immigrant uncle in a liquor store, but not Hillary. Riiiiiiight. https://t.co/P8p0nDySFh

So it's OK to embarrass college coeds for Factor ratings, but not okay to embarrass Hillary Clinton https://t.co/imMHYzwA3Z

This isn't the first time O'Reilly has called out Mattera's tactics.
