LOS ANGELES (AP) — One person was killed and five injured in two separate incidents at parties ahead of the BET Awards in Los Angeles, police said Sunday.
One person was killed and four wounded by gunfire early Sunday at the Monalizza Restaurant & Banquet Hall, said Los Angeles police officer Drake Madison. It was not immediately clear whether the shooter attended the party or fired from outside, he said.
KNX 1070 reported the person who was killed died at the scene. Hours after the gunfire, blood coated the sidewalks and the banquet hall inside, reported KCAL-TV in Los Angeles.
In a separate incident, a man was stabbed in the stomach Saturday night at the Lure Nightclub in Hollywood, Madison said. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries, KCAL reported.
Police are searching for suspects in both incidents. The venues are not in the same immediate area.
The parties were related to the BET Awards but not part of the official events, Madison said.
The BET Awards will air live at 8 p.m. Eastern.
