Report: Train Carrying Over 1,000 Migrants Headed for the U.S. Derails in Mexico

"The Beast."

A cargo train traveling toward the U.S. border, typically used by Central Americans aiming to cross into the United States, derailed in Oaxaca, Mexico, on Wednesday.

Emergency services told Reuters that roughly 1,300 migrants were left stranded, but none were injured.

More than 50,000 unaccompanied minors have illegally entered into the United States in 2014 alone, Reuters adds, creating what President Obama has labeled an "urgent humanitarian situation."

The train, nicknamed "the Beast," was said to be primarily carrying young people.

Authorities said several days of heavy rain likely caused the train to derail.
