What the State Dept. Spokeswoman Tweeted Out Thursday Night Has Her Taking Heavy Fire

"Is this real?"

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki came under criticism from Fox's Shepard Smith on Thursday afternoon for the way she started her daily press briefing, and now she's under fire for a tweet she sent out Thursday night.

The tweet in question? At the end of a day filled with major world events including the attack on a Malaysian Airlines passenger jet and a ground invasion of Gaza, Psaki sent out a message touting a former colleague's op-ed in the Washington Post defending women's magazines and their mix of serious and fun articles. The title of the article is, "Being informed and fashionable is natural for women."

A quick look at Psaki's Twitter account Friday morning shows she sent one tweet about the Malaysian Airlines crash on Thursday. She sent no messages regarding Israel's ground invasion of Gaza.

Critics noticed. The responses to her tweet were passionate:

By the time of publication on Friday morning, Psaki sent out one more tweet, but it was about John Kerry's trip to Afghanistan last weekend.
