PHILADELPHIA (TheBlaze/AP) — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged in the death of a 3-year-old girl who was shot while sitting on a front porch getting her hair braided, police said.
Douglas Woods of Philadelphia has been charged with murder, three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges, according to Officer Tanya Little.
Tynirah Borum was shot in the chest in the Grays Ferry section of the city on Friday night. Officers put her in their patrol car and rushed her to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead less than an hour later.
Police said the gunfire erupted during an argument between a man on a bicycle and a 24-year-old man. The cyclist fired shots from a handgun, shooting the other man in the head, police said. The victim was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Stray bullets hit Borum, as well as a 28-year-old female bystander who was shot in the left arm and a 21-year-old male bystander who was shot in the right leg.
Family and friends told WCAU-TV that Borum didn't live at the home where she was shot and that her mother was around the corner at the time.
"She was everything to us," Renee Bradford, a friend of Borum's mother, told WCAU-TV. "She didn't deserve this. She was simply trying to get her hair done. For her to get shot in the chest? She's a baby. No baby deserves to die like that."
Witnesses said the shooter fled on the bike.
"There's nothing much you can say about this tragedy," Mike Collins, the victim's cousin, told the news station. "That was my little cousin. It hurts."
