Stunning Time-Lapse Footage of Storm Cloud Rolling Into Kansas City

Those in Kansas City, Missouri, kicking off their Labor Day weekend last Friday might have glanced up to the sky to see an ominous-looking cloud. But only storm photographer Stephen Locke brings to life just how threatening the cloud looked in his time-lapse video.

"Hey Kansas City, where were you Friday night August 29th? While you were at Sporting KC,  Irish Fest, Crossroads, Grinders, Santa Cali-Gon, Starlight or the Plaza, this was sneaking up behind you!" he wrote on his website. "My cameras were ready!"

Two days after posting the video to the sharing site Vimeo, Locke wrote that it had gotten thousands of views.

"It feels pleasant to have my work recognized in this manner," he wrote of his footage later being named a Vimeo Staff Pick. "Supercell time-lapse cinematography is what I do and love."

An arcus cloud, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, is a "low, horizontal cloud formation associated with the leading edge of thunderstorm outflow."
