Glenn Beck told his radio audience Tuesday that the United States of America is not at war with the Islamic State, but is preparing for war with Syrian President Bashar Assad.
"Make no mistake, we are not at war with ISIS," Beck said. "We are a nation at war, or preparing to go to war, with Assad, period. That's what's happening. The president wanted to go to war with Assad. He wanted to destabilize the region with that dictator and get him out of there. And that's exactly what's happening."
President Barack Obama last week asked Congress for the authority to arm and train Syrian rebels as part of the strategy to combat the Islamic State.
"The rebels that we are arming have just signed an agreement with ISIS, a nonaggression agreement," Beck noted. "So, remember, in the Islamic world and in the Islamic extremist world, you have a right to lie to the adversary. ... As they get ready to take our arms, of course they're going to lie, because we're giving them arms. And they will use those arms against Assad."
"Meanwhile, the White House has said to Assad, 'Don't you dare interrupt any of our airstrikes," Beck continued. "'Don't interfere with our airplanes.'"
"We are at war with Assad, period," he said. "That's all this is about."
Beck was stunned by a New York Times report that said Obama had imagined being an "adviser to ISIS" while speaking in a private meeting. Obama reportedly said that, rather than behead American journalists, he would have pinned notes to the hostages' chests urging the United States: “Stay out of here; this is none of your business."
"Do not buy that it is leaked," Beck said. "That was intentionally released. This is a president who does not want to engage in any of this stuff. So he's saying, 'Look, guys, we don't want do fight you. We don't want to do anything. But what you're doing is pissing off the American people, and I have to do something. So start being smart. We'll go away. We'll leave you alone.' That's what's happening."
Beck said if Obama truly wanted to defeat the Islamic State, he would arm the Kurds, not the Syrian rebels.
"If you want to arm someone, you arm the Kurds," Beck said. "You don't arm the Muslim extremists. But this isn't really about the Kurds. This isn't really about ISIS. This is about Assad. And organizing -- hear me -- these are the words of the president, 'organizing the Middle East.' If you want to organize the Middle East, you have to get rid of the dictators."
"This is a target on Assad. Make no mistake."
