9th Circuit: It's OK to ban American flag shirts on Cinco De Mayo

Every day is a good day to honor the U.S. flag and all it stands for. Don't tell that to the folks at Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill, California, or my good pal Ruben Navarrette Jr.

The 9th Circuit decided not to take up the ruling by three appellate judges that said that it's perfectly OK for school administrators to ban the wearing of American flags on Cinco De Mayo. The punt by the 9th Circuit allowed the lower court ruling to stand.

What country did I wake up in? The very idea that our youth would have their First Amendment right, to show their pride in the American flag, stripped away is lunacy. What's worse, the taking of that right was done in favor of others who desire to express their love and support for another country's holiday.

Suffice it to say, Ruben and I didn't see eye to eye on this one. Cue to the 20:50-mark:
