Alleged Drunk Driver Thinks She's Parking at a Bar. What Happens Next Is Just Poetic.
October 19, 2014
She was trying to pick up her boyfriend.
PAW PAW, Mich. (TheBlaze/AP) — One is a building with bars. The other is a building with a bar.
But one woman — allegedly very drunk — seemed to have a problem telling them apart and ended up in a southwestern Michigan jail cell because of it.
The 39-year-old mistook the Van Buren County Jail for a bar where she was trying to pick up her boyfriend, the county sheriff's department said. In fact, the woman had left a different bar before mistakenly parking in the jail lot, MLive reported.
Deputy Robert Miersma spotted the woman backing into the jail parking lot in Paw Paw — which is about 15 miles southwest of Kalamazoo — around 2 a.m. Sunday and noticed she smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated, the department added.
A breathalyzer test revealed the woman had a blood alcohol level that was more than twice the state's legal limit of .08, MLive reported, citing police.
She was being held in the Van Buren County Jail and is expected to face charges of operating while intoxicated and high BAC, which means the woman was found to have a BAC of .17 or higher, MLive added.
