Border Officials Scan Inside of Jesus Statue, Make 'Unique Seizure' Worth About $20,000

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers in Cincinnati said Friday that they had discovered approximately $20,000 of marijuana concealed inside of a religious decorative statue.

"This unique seizure demonstrates the extraordinary methods individuals will utilize in their attempt to smuggle narcotics,” Cincinnati port director Richard L. Gillespie said in a statement. “This seizure further illustrates the vigilance of CBP officers in interdicting contraband entering the country.”

According to authorities, the seizure was made early in the morning Friday when an inspection dog alerted officials to the statue of Jesus which was being shipped to San Juan, Puerto Rico from Mexico.

An x-ray then revealed a "green leafy substance," officials said. Tests later confirmed the substance to be marijuana.
