"Aw, that's adorable, you still think that's how government works."

Who needs bills when you can take a presidential shortcut?

In a harsh spoof of "Schoolhouse Rock" this week, "Saturday Night Live" tackled President Barack Obama's approach to immigration, showing the president literally shove a hopeful immigration bill down the Capitol steps as cheery educational music plays.

Enter the president's immigration strategy: the executive order.

He comes in smoking a cigarette and singing, "I'm an executive order, and I pretty much just happen."

"Wait a second, don't you have to go through Congress at some point?" the "little boy" getting the government lesson asks.

"Aw, that's adorable, you still think that's how government works," the executive order responds, as "President Obama" smirks nearby.

But when the president reveals what the executive order does — "grant[ing] legal status to 5 million undocumented immigrants" — even the order himself is shocked.

"I didn't have time to read myself!" he exclaims.
