Is Your State 'Naughty' or 'Nice' When It Comes to Having Christmas Spirit? This Infographic Has the Answer
December 16, 2014
"People love Christmas music!"
Which states have the most holiday spirit? That's the question that AccuRadio, a streaming music company, set out to answer in recent analysis of the Christmas music being consumed on its more than 50 holiday channels.
With more than 1 million active users, AccuRadio dove into its listener data collected from November 2013 through November 2014 to determine where states ranked for the total hours of holiday music listened to, adjusting for population to make the analysis more comparable.
And here's what they found: the "nice" state with the most holiday cheer based on total number of listening hours was Washington D.C., followed by Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Washington and Ohio.
On the flip side, the "naughty" state with the least holiday cheer based on these same parameters was New Jersey, with New Hampshire, Delaware, Wyoming and Hawaii following right in line.
There's also another indicator that AccuRadio measured: the most and least popular holiday songs overall, with "It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas" and "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" getting favorable marks — and "Christmas Don't Be Late" drawing disdain, among others.
The below infographic has the full details, including the most and least popular songs overall:

AccuRadio music programmer Eric Bowden told TheBlaze that his company embarked on and published the holiday-themed research for a variety of reasons.
"First and foremost, people love Christmas music! Our traffic spikes during the holidays, and we enjoy seeing how our listeners are interacting with the music," he said. "We frequently look at similar data internally, and always find in fascinating, and we thought others would agree."
Among the most intriguing research tidbits, Bowden said he was surprised to see Washington, D.C. coming out on top of the list.
"We adjusted for population size, but given that D.C. is so small, that shows that a huge proportion of our listeners in DC really love Christmas music," he said. "It's always fun to see how the different regions react to different types of music and even different songs."
