Read the Chilling Text Message Student Sent Mom Before Hero Teacher Reportedly Took Down Gunman at High School

Police said a 16-year-old student with a gun fired two shots into the air at North Thurston High School in Lacey, Washington, Monday morning when a teacher made the life-risking decision to tackle the shooter before he could harm any students.

Thanks to the heroic actions of the teacher, identified by the school district as Brady Olson, the shooter was taken into custody and no injuries were reported. The school resource officer called in the shooting at roughly 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

A parent provided KING-TV a chilling text message she received from her child during the horrifying incident:

Lacey Police Commander Chris Ward told KING-TV that the teacher “probably prevented worse things from happening.”

"I think it's heroic. I think it's guttural. People rise to the occasion when they need to do something,” he said.

Students expressed their gratitude for their teacher's bravery in the aftermath of the lockdown:

Students were taken to the football stadium and later released to their parents after it was confirmed that the area was secure.
