See How Journalist Responds When BuzzFeed Editor Calls Him Out for Misleading Rubio Characterization
June 09, 2015
"I would point you to the dictionary for what the word means"
A journalist dug his heels in the sand Tuesday and adamantly defended a misleading characterization of Sen. Marco Rubio's (R-Fla.) boat as a "luxury" vessel, despite an editor at a competing news organization providing evidence that suggested the Republican hopeful simply owns a standard fishing boat.
The debate was the result of a New York Times story that described Rubio's EdgeWater 245CC Deep-V Center Console as a "luxury speedboat." That characterization was challenged by the presidential contender's campaign which sent Politico's Dylan Byers a link to the website showing the exact make and model of the boat Rubio owns. The page failed to describe the boat in question as a "luxury" vessel.
But that wasn't enough, however, for Business Insider politics editor Hunter Walker who responded on Twitter to Byers and BuzzFeed deputy news director Jon Passantino, who had retweeted the story.
Here is the conversation that transpired:
