David Canales, a transplant from Texas in Alaska, keeps a visual log of his exploratory adventures of what's often considered America's last frontier.
What he captured on camera and posted on the photo-sharing site Instagram earlier this week has the world talking.
He snapped a photo of a bald eagle carrying a seagull as it snipped at his talons. Above the eagle, another seagull, seemingly defending his friend, attacked at the feathers behind the bird-of-prey's neck.
"One of the most epic sights I've ever seen," Canales wrote. "Had just switched on my 400mm lens seconds before I captured this on my kayak. Eagles in Valdez don't mess around."
The U.S. Department of the Interior took notice of the photo, posting it on its own Facebook page.
"Check out this epic aerial battle between a bald eagle & two seagulls," the department commented. "David Canales captured this once-in-a-lifetime photo from his kayak on Prince William Sound in Alaska while on an 11-day expedition from Valdez to Whittier."
Canales didn't immediately respond to TheBlaze's request for comment.
