Video: Suspected Robber Figured He Could Overpower This Woman — He Learned the Painfully Hard Way She Was a MMA Fighter

"I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground."

Monique Bastos might have looked like an easy target for robbers Tuesday night.

What the robbers who targeted the Brazilian woman in the city of Acailandia didn't know was that she was on her way to a jiu-jitsu class and that Bastos is a strawweight mixed martial arts fighter.

The strawweight category puts a female fighter at or under 115 pounds, but that didn't stop her from taking down this man.

When one of the robbers made a grab for Bastos phone and after she realized they were not armed, the fighter showed them what she was made of and had one of them begging her for mercy in the end.

"When they tried to escape, I lifted the rear wheel of the bike and they fell on the ground," Bastos told MMAFighting.com. "The guy who took my phone ran away, but I was able to get the other one."

Once Bastos had the man in what the MMA website called a triangle choke on the sidewalk to wait for police, someone started recording.

Watch the footage:

The suspect was arrested and identified as 18-year-old Wesley Sousa de Araujo.

Bastos also told MMAFighting.com that this is the second time she's used her skills to defend herself and others.

"There were two guys, and they were using knives, but I was able to use my jiu-jitsu and get my phone back. It’s a huge risk, but I did it to defend myself and my friends, so I used what I learned," she said.
